A Sunshine Village Ski Resort employee is in stable condition at a Calgary hospital following a workplace accident early Friday morning (May 16).
According to a spokesperson with Occupational Health and Safety the 25-year-old male was injured at 4 a.m. while riding on the outside deck of a snowcat at the ski hill.
"This morning at approximately 4 a.m.a snowcat operator was performing grooming duties and a few workers were riding on the outside of the deck of the grooming machine," spokesperson Lisa Glover said. "One worker fell off and was run over by the snowcat."
The man was transported to Banff Mineral Springs Hospital and then to Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance shortly after 5 a.m.
Glover said an OHS investigator is on the way to the ski hill to determine the nature of the incident and whether the man was working at the time he was run over. She added the man is in stale condition at this time, although details of his injuries were unavailable.
Tanya Otis, spokesperson for Sunshine Village, confirmed an incident occurred, but could not provide any other details at this time.
"There was an incident early this morning an individual was transported to Calgary and is being assessed and we are currently conducting an investigation with the appropriate authorities," Otis said.
