BANFF - Three Banff RCMP officers were injured while trying to arrest an intoxicated man on June 8.

At about 5:30 p.m., RCMP responded to a call to remove a 34-year-old man who was allegedly intoxicated and combative from an apartment.

While trying to arrest him, he assaulted the three responding officers, jumped off a balcony and fled a short distance before being apprehended by two more RCMP officers who arrived to help.

The man, as well as the three officers, were all taken to hospital where they were treated and later released. One member remains off duty while the other two have returned to duty.

Robin Tatham has been charged with one count of disarming a police officer, two counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon and three counts of assaulting a police officer. None of the allegations have been proven in court.

He is scheduled to appear in Canmore Provincial Court on June 20.

"The efforts put forth by the attending officers to maintain control of this situation in the face of their injuries is to be commended" Banff detachment commander Michael Buxton-Carr, in a press release.

"An incident like this demonstrates the risks we face and overcome on a daily basis."
