Canmore RCMP is investigating after thieves targeted a Canmore car dealership overnight Wednesday (Aug. 19) taking tires from five vehicles and smashing windows.
Sgt. Ryan Currie said a U-Haul truck was also reported stolen that night and was likely used as part of the theft from CanBow Motors on Railway Avenue.
“It looks like that could have been involved as well,” Currie said. “We have heard of these things happening before with brand new vehicles.”
He said the suspects used a forklift to steal the tires and this type of crime is hard to track because the suspects likely came from Calgary and returned to sell the stolen tires online. As the tires don’ t have serial numbers, they are hard to find after they are stolen.
Currie said anyone with information about the crime should contact the local detachment at 403-678-5519 or through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
