A 54-year-old Quebec woman taking photos at a popular tourist spot near Field, B.C., died after being hit by a vehicle, Sunday afternoon (Aug. 20).

RCMP say preliminary findings indicate the male driver of a 2017 Kia was travelling northbound on Takkakaw Falls Road at about 3:30 p.m. when he crossed over the southbound lane into a popular pullout and struck the woman.

Police say witnesses confirmed the driver narrowly missed a second pedestrian prior to rear-ending the female victim’s vehicle.

“The woman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” wrote RCMP spokesman Cpl. Dan Moskaluk in a news release.

“Alcohol was not a factor in this collision. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.”

STARS air ambulance was called to the scene about 3:50 p.m.

“We landed, but didn’t transport the patient,” said Fatima Khawaja, STARS spokeswoman.

Golden-Field RCMP and RCMP Traffic Service investigators responded.

The 54-year-old Quebec woman was visiting the parks with her husband.

The driver of the Kia and his passengers were transported to Banff Mineral Springs Hospital with minor injuries.
