Bow Valley Regional Transit Services Commission is conducting a survey to determine whether the regional Roam bus service between Banff and Canmore needs to run more often.

The online survey, available at www.roamtransit.com, runs until the end of August.

Martin Bean, BVRTSC chief administrative officer, said the group wants to collect information to help the commission and the municipalities of Banff and Canmore determine possible improvements to the public transit service.

He said one idea is to extend the current hourly service to every 30 minutes during morning and afternoon rush-hour times before and after work.

“The intent of the survey is to find out if the needs of community are being met with the current regional services, or if they need to be some enhancements, such as increased frequency of service,” said Bean.

“We’re getting the information primarily from local users, and some visitors if they are available, and attempting to target some of the non-users to see what it would take to get them using the regional transit system.”

There have been 60,000 riders so far this year using regional transit, compared to 55,000 for the same timeframe last year. Ridership for June and July this year was 19,000 compared to 18,200 last year.

As an incentive for participating in the online survey on regional service, BVRTSC will offer five 10-ride regional passes to randomly selected survey participants who choose to provide their contact information.
