The annual awards event that celebrates the strong volunteer spirit of Canmore residents, young and old, corporate and non-profit, needs more nominations this year.
In an effort to generate more nominations from the community, Family and Community Support Services program assistant Hannah de Soto said the deadline has been extended to March 9.
“The event is during national volunteer week and the purpose is to really recognize volunteers in the community and how important they are and the impact they have,” de Soto said.
Nominations can be made in a variety of categories, but de Soto said specifically they are looking for the community to recognize the efforts of youth volunteers, as well as in the corporate for profit and non-profit categories.
That means companies that donate staff time, funds, or goods to organizations or events can be recognized, along with local non-profit groups that contribute to the community on a regular basis.
As well, the great neighbour award is a category where those in the community wanting to recognize someone they know who makes life better for everyone around them, can make a nomination.
Nomination forms are available at the FCSS office at the Civic Centre, or the front desk. Go to www.canmore.ca/volunteer-awards to download the forms as well.
De Soto said the more detail included in the nomination, the better able the committee will be to make the best the decision.
