Drive by shootings at a Morley residence and the Stoney Education Authority office are under investigation, according to Cochrane RCMP.
RCMP seized one rifle after executing a search warrant at a Stoney residence on Tuesday (Dec. 1) for a firearm believed used in the shootings. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday (Dec. 2), said RCMP.
Police believe both incidents occurred around similar times on Saturday and by the same individual(s).
Police said three to four individuals inside the Stoney Nakoda residence were unharmed, but fearful after the shooting in the early hours of Saturday (Nov. 28).
One large calibre round was shot from a nearby road at the residence, split through the front door and exited through the rear of the home.
“A person of interest (POI) has been identified,” said Cochrane Sgt. Jeff Campbell.
The residence shooting was a “targeted attack,” Campbell added, and the POI is “no threat to the general public.” The individuals inside the residence and the POI are known to each other.
On Monday (Nov. 30), Stoney Education Authority employees found a large round had been fired through their office.
Investigations continue and the RCMP ask anyone with information on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation to contact Cochrane RCMP or to report their information through Crime Stoppers.
