Charges are pending as an investigation continues following a wolf getting into “unsecured garbage” in the backyard of a Banff residential home.
On Tuesday morning (Aug. 9), an un-collared grey wolf was seen feeding on unsecured garbage at a residence on Cougar Street.
Town of Banff bylaw officers and Parks Canada wardens are conducting an investigation that might result in charges, said Greg Danchuk, Parks Canada visitor experience manager.
This year, two food-conditioned Bow Valley wolf pack members were shot and killed by Parks wildlife managers due to visitor safety issues.
In many incidents, the bold wolves approached campers and campsites searching for a food reward.
“Everyone has to work at this together,” said Danchuk. “Visitors, town residents, we all carry this same responsibly to clean up and keep wildlife safe.”
Parks Canada would like to remind Banff residents to ensure all garbage is sealed and properly disposed of in wildlife-proof garbage bins.
