After a rocky start to the season, the CCHS senior girls volleyball team flourished at its biggest tournament of the year, winning a bronze medal in the process.

Facing off against 87 other teams at the Best of the West tournament, Oct. 17-19 in Kelowna, the Crusaders ended up in Tier 3, where they handled most of their competition with ease, cruising into the medal rounds.

“It was a good collective effort,” said head coach Darren Anderson. “Overall, as a team, we overcame some big adversity. We got it together and decided what to do as a team.”

Having not played for two weeks, CCHS showed some nerves in their first game, dropping an early game to Port Coquitlam. That relegated them into the third division. They then dismantled the competition with ease, and the team improved over the day. In the bronze medal game, they defeated Langley for the win.

The team was strong as a whole, however, Anderson said Emma Dinh stepped up as a setter, and Sarah Pauls continued her strong play.

The team travels to Edmonton for its next tournament, where they’ll play the top Tier 3A teams in the province.
