Elton John was right – Saturday night is all right for fighting.

Nick Martin of the Canmore Fight Club (CFC) Gym hosted three exhibition boxing bouts on Saturday (April 26). The bouts featured three members of Martin’s gym taking on boxers from other local clubs in the area.

The first match of the night included Jeremy “Not in the Face” Kaliel out of Calgary Islander Boxing against Ryan Skwara.

“It was pretty one sided, Ryan pretty much ran with that one,” Martin said. “Fortunately, the local crowd loved it. Basically, the story with that one is Ryan’s conditioning was just that much better than Jeremy’s.”

All three of the night’s bout were exhibition matches, with no points being awarded or scoring kept.

The second match had CFC member Dave “Hurricane” Hernandez go toe to toe with Cochrane’s East End Boxing member Brooks Capewell.

“That went really good, it was probably the best match of the night,” Martin said. “Dave definitely had the better rounds, but Brooks came to fight and it was a really good fight – Dave definitely ran away with it.” Martin added Hernandez has a powerful right hand and was able to utilize it throughout the match.

The last bout of the night had 17-year-old Guillermo Hernandez (the younger sibling of Dave Hernandez) face Kane Majocha out of East End Boxing. “Guillermo handled himself really well and it was his first fight out too,” Martin said. He definitely had control over the whole fight and he did great.”

Mason says the superior conditioning showcased from the CFC members was the constant lynchpin that had Canmore’s fighters come out on top.

Canmore Fight Club will hold its annual boxing charity match on July 26 in Banff to raise funds for Cancer Alberta and Bless The Children. Visit www.canmorefightclub.ca to find out more details on the upcoming match when they are released.
