The Tampa Bay Lightning drafted former Canmore Eagles forward Brayden Point 79th overall in the NHL draft on Saturday (June 28) in Philadelphia.
Point only played four games for the Eagles during the abysmal 2011-12 season as an emergency call-up on loan from the Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAA team, recording two goals and two assists during his brief stint with the club.
The Calgary native later went on to star with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL, where last season he recorded 91 points in 72 games. He also represented Canada at the U18 tournament, where he was an assistant captain and picked up two assists in two games.
The 5 foot 10, 161-pound sparkplug centre will try to become the third Eagle alumnus to make the jump to the NHL. Others include Dan Blackburn, Darcy Campbell and Shane Joseph.
His brother, Riley Point, was captain of the Eagles for the 2012-13 season and later went on to play for Red Deer College.
Spruce Grove Saints defenceman Brandon Hickey was drafted 64th overall by the Calgary Flames and Olds Grizzlies defenceman Nikolas Koberstein was drafted 125th overall by the Montreal Canadians.
