More Bow Valley athletes have been named to the Alberta Winter Games roster, as the games are now a mere three weeks away.

Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Feb. 7 for the three-day event, which will bring more than 2,000 coaches and athletes to Banff and Canmore. Organizers recently confirmed the games will leave a $100,000 legacy in the Bow Valley, which will be administered by the Rotary Club.

Local coaches Alexandra Armstrong, Maura Binley, Ross McKercher and Brad Hawker will lead the Zone 2 Alpine team, which will include Claire Timmerman, Isla Hawkins, Isabella Carver, Rose Binley-Ewing, Mariana Tellez, Callum Hawker, Cody Monod, Matthew Topham, Blane O’Brien and Desmond Lazar.

Canmore Nordic also confirmed its list of biathletes for the Winter Games, led by Matthew Gillet, Saidy Coyne and Lucas Fabbri, who will all partake in their third games. They’ll be joined by Megan Orvig, Kjirsti Sellers, Tait Carlson, Lance Holland, Jack Collison, Claire Hoilett, Anna Sellers, Emma Paczkowski, Thomas Hunt, Thomas Hulsman, Jack Davies, Eric Skarsgard and Fynn Mitchell.

The Zone 2 cross-country ski list has also been finalized, as Sebastien Parent, Lucas Hornyansky, Kindrey de Nys, Marike Henderson, Jack Menzies, Kota Postma, Oranne Trouillot, Ava Holman, Miliana Giesbrecht, Riley Millar, Alex Harvey, Amy Morton and Lily May Bell were named to the team this week.

Other Bow Valley residents are beginning to fill out some of the other teams. Kyle Burt and Max Lozeman were named to the Zone 2 volleyball team, while Noah Philp will represent Canmore in the squash tournament.

The Alberta Winter Games is still looking for volunteers and will hold a rally on Saturday (Jan. 18) at Elevation Place for those interested. The games received another boost when Kavia Fine Jewellers donated several diamonds to the games effort.
