Read back to lead Alberta Alpine

Canadian ski legend Ken Read has once again stepped in to assist Alberta Alpine to lead a transition leadership team following the departure of outgoing president Adam Hull.

Read will assist incoming president Nigel Loring and athletics director Cam Stephen as the organization reloads for another quadrennial.

“Our entire senior management team has changed this summer,” said Alberta Alpine chair Bob Leitch. “Some of our leadership are familiar faces in new positions, others are new to Alberta. We felt it would be a world-class solution to reach out to a leader like Ken to work with our staff to ensure we maintain the corporate memory and strong performance culture that has been built over the past decade.”

Read will join the Alberta Alpine management team for a two-month period, working with staff to transition key areas, including the Quest for Gold Golf Tournament at Silvertip, corporate sponsorship, high performance program planning and introducing the new management team to the Alberta ski racing and sport community.

“I’m excited to be working with this new leadership team”, said Read. “Alberta Alpine is in a great position thanks to the hard work of outgoing President Adam Hull (who is leaving to pursue an MBA at Simon Fraser) and Brett Zagozewski (now head coach of the ladies Alberta ski team).

“My role is to share my experience as a sport leader with Own the Podium and the current international sport world, but perhaps the most important, and so often overlooked job. is sharing the corporate memory of the sport and Alberta Alpine with the incoming management team.”

“I’m looking forward to working with Ken throughout my first couple of months and beyond,” said Loring. “Having his wealth of experience readily available will mean Alberta Alpine won’t miss a beat as we enter into the race season.”

Read will be in charge of ensuring a smooth transition after Hull’s departure to study for his MBA.

“The first few months are a great opportunity for Nigel to meet members of the ski community. Rather than concern himself over every detail of planning large early events (such as the golf tournament), he can focus on relationships and work with the broader leadership team,” Read said.

The early winter will see a very busy program in Alberta, leading with the 46th annual Petroleum Club fundraiser (the longest running ski racing fundraising event in Canada), the return of Nor-Am Cup racing at Lake Louise (Dec. 8-12) and Panorama (Dec. 13-20) and the new Keurig Can-Am FIS Race Series (Dec. 20-23).
