Running shoe prints and mountain bike treads imprinted the TransRockies Rundle’s Revenge mountain course this past weekend.
The cross-country run and mountain bike races took over the Canmore Nordic Centre (June 25-26) as a plethora of athletes ventured into the wooded yonder.
Local athletes like Banff’s Stefanie Gignac participated over the two days.
Gignac registered last minute for the women’s 40- and over 50-kilometre run and finished in second place (5:39:20.5) on Sunday.
“I came here this morning to do two laps, hopefully three and maybe four,” said Gignac, who runs with local group Canmore Trail Culture.
“I ran really strong and I’m super happy. I don’t know what happened, but I’m like ‘yay.’
“Every lap I had a trip and in the last lap had a nasty fall, but I’m OK.”
Standout local results for the various cross-country running include: Canmore’s Maegan Carney first in the women 40-plus 12.5 km run; Canmore’s Liz Brook was first in the open women’s 12.5-km; while Canmore men swept the podium in the open 12.5-km as Rob Brennan, Chris Butler and Jeff Dent were one, two, three.
Canmore’s Michael Manka was golden in the open men Donkey Lite 25/15.5 km.
