Shane Collins scored the lone goal on a perfectly placed cross in the first half while Andre Frank pitched the shutout in goal as Sushi House defeated the Pump and Tap 1-0 in Bow Valley Soccer Action on Sunday (Aug. 17).

The goal was Collins’ first of the season, and came in his first game playing midfield.

“I just went for the cross and sliced it and put it in the back of the net,” Collins said.

Sushi House has stumbled this season, and Pump and Tap gave them a run for their money on Saturday, but Collins said they’re capable of playing better and improving their standing in the league.

“Our plan was to keep the ball, really. We didn’t play well, but we’ll take it. We’ve played better, but a win’s a win,” Collins said.

Earls appeared to have unofficially sewed up the league title on Sunday when Lake Louise forfeited their match, however, the soccer league should make the official call this weekend.

Collins said Sushi House is still in a battle for second place, and have two tough games left to finish out the year. To win, they’ll need a better turnout as well as more goals, to keep the pressure off Frank, who was stellar against Pump and Tap.

“Andre saved us a few times. He played really well,” Collins said.

Canmore and the Banff Springs also postponed their game on Sunday. League action resumes at 11 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 24)
