Cross country skiing and fine dining will once again come together as part of the Alberta World Cup Academy’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

The annual Taste of Winter dinner will take place on Friday (Feb. 27) at the Bill Warren Training Centre, with world class cuisine coming from chef/Olympian/former coach Stehan Kuhn and Patric Stettler. Wine selections are chosen by sommelier Jaz Nadeau.

“The concept is a four course dinner with wine pairings, partnered with Canmore Wine Merchant selections,” said AWCA head coach Chris Jeffries. “It’s a fun way to bring together multiple partners from the area to celebrate the ski community, athletes and launch Ski Tour Canada.”

The $100 dollar a plate fundraiser helps pay for the Academy’s ski season.

“The fundraiser goes a long way to covering our race service costs for the year. We send coaches and technicians to events like the world juniors and nationals, and this fundraiser helps cover those costs,” Jeffries said.

The Academy will be well represented at the upcoming Ski Tour Canada, which runs from March 1-12, with races in Canmore March 8-12. Along with alumni Graeme Killick, Emily Nishikawa, Jess Cockney, Bob Thompson, Russell Kennedy and Michael Somppi, current AWCA athletes Kevin Sandau, Knute Johnsgaard, Dahria Beatty, Olivia Bouffard Nesbitt and Patrick Stewart-Jones will race for Canada. AWCA athletes will serve dinner on the evening.

“What I love about it, is to be in a room with so many people I know celebrating the same thing. The atmosphere is light, it’s about enjoyable company, enjoying food, wine and the support of our athletes.

Dinner starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at www.zone4.ca.
