It is the ultimate test of who is funnier on the spot and who will be crowned the Bow Valley’s best improv troupe and it is sure to make your belly hurt with laughter.
The Improv Throwdown Showdown is being held next Wednesday (June 10) at Canmore Collegiate High School in the theatre and both local improv groups that have called the valley home are ready to rumble.
The Flukes of Nature (circa 1998 to 2005) will take on Mountain Improv Alliance on the stage to determine who is funnier.
Sean Krausert said the Flukes of Nature are the reigning champions and look forward to upholding that title.
“With the Mountain Improv Association, I hope they are not MIA on June 10, because we are looking forward to kicking some improv butt,” Krausert said. “We made the challenge and we threw down the gauntlet, because you know, as far as we are concerned, we are still the reigning improv champs in the Bow Valley and we are coming out of retirement to defend our title.”
MIA’s Rob Murray was quick to respond that while the Flukes may be the reigning champions locally, that is only because they have not had any competition until recently.
“We are coming in strong, we have a full healthy membership and we will have a good complement of people at the show,” Murray said. “I think we have been doing this now for a couple of years and the Flukes are a little rusty after being off the job for so long. I think we have a good chance at this one.”
The Throwdown Showdown is a fundraiser for Banff YWCA, which offers programs and services for the entire Bow Valley. YWCA executive director Connie MacDonald, Canmore town Councillor Joanna McCallum and Outlook reporter Tanya Foubert will judge the competition.
