BTC show offers a comedic glimpse into Banff Buy and Sell

If you have an appetite for improv and sketch comedy about the funny interactions that can happen on a Facebook group, then look no further than the upcoming Banff Theatre Collective show.

If you have an appetite for improv and sketch comedy about the funny interactions that can happen on a Facebook group, then look no further than the upcoming Banff Theatre Collective show.

BTC is presenting Banff Buy and Sell, a Sketch Comedy on April 24 and 25 at the Lux Cinema. BanffLife ambassador Tim Eckmier said it is the group's third production in the resort community.

“It is a cabaret style comedy and a way to get people out and having some fun,” Eckmier said.

The show will include sketch and improv comedy, and audience members are encouraged to bring mystery items that will be part of the show as well.

Eckmier said the theatre group arose out of a passion for theatre he wanted to share with the community, and a desire to create a drop-in program that provided young adults in Banff an opportunity to take part in improv and sketch comedy.

As a result of the drop-in program held on Sunday nights, he said, three productions have been held and the most recent being the buy and sell based comedy show.

“This one is about the Banff Buy and Sell and we are doing crazy sketches about different situations that can happen on there,” he said. “There is a lot of creativity and situational comedy as well.”

The program is run through BanffLife, which Eckmier is an ambassador with. The drop-in program, however, will take a break over the summer and return in the fall/winter, he added.

“BanffLife gave me the wings to fly with this idea and a space to rehearse and publicity to get people involved in young people's programming,” he said. “It is a lot of work, but it has been really enjoyable to have people of all different backgrounds and experience levels and put them on stage.”

The venue, the Lux Cinema, is also a new location for the theatre group to put on a show. There are 15 people in the cast and the show also features DJ Drejavu.

The show begins at 10 p.m. and tickets are $10 and available at the Lux. There is a cash bar, but people are encouraged to drink responsibly. For more information on the Banff Theatre Collective, go to banfftheatre.ca or visit their Facebook group.
