After two years as festival director of the Canmore Folk Music Festival, Kurt Bagnell is resigning from the position for personal reasons.

Bagnell will continue with the festival until the end of 2014.

Board chair John Martland expressed the board’s deep appreciation for Bagnell’s service, saying, “Over the past several years, Kurt has made some wonderful contributions to the festival with his vast experience in the music industry and excellent connections to the artists, including bringing in Jim Cuddy for our 36th anniversary.

“We thank him for his work and dedication and anticipate his continued involvement in our festival.”

Sue Panning will move back into the role of artistic director to ensure that work continues smoothly on the 38th festival (Aug. 1-3, 2015).

“Sue has been an important part of the festival for many years. She was artistic director for two years and associate artistic director during a transitioning phase,” said Martland. “She’s a talented and passionate member of the festival team. The festival board appreciates her returning to this enhanced role.”

Meanwhile, the search for a new general manager of the festival begins immediately. Advertising will be placed in relevant publications soon. Anyone with interest or wanting more information is encouraged to contact the festival.
