Scotch and chocolate tasting a toast to Robbie

This return program is back by popular demand at Banff’s Cave and Basin Historic Site on Jan. 23, with last year’s event selling out.

“We’ve actually increased the seating capacity to accommodate more visitors to enjoy the program this year,” said Parks Canada promotions officer Anne Frick.

“The Town of Banff has had a strong Scottish influence and that’s why we’re here to help celebrate that. We have many connections to Scotland, whether it be Sir John A. McDonald or George Stephen from the Canadian Pacific Railway, or even our own original caretaker at the Cave and Basin, David Galletly, and this program raises a glass to celebrate these lovely connections.”

The Scotch and Chocolate Tasting is a one-of-a-kind program in Banff for Parks Canada, which will also invite the 78th Highlanders of Halifax Citadel National Historic Site – Parks Canada’s resident Scotch whisky connoisseurs.

“This is a Parks Canada program, but we’re collaborating with some partners such as the Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut in Banff’s Harmony Lane,” said Frick. “It’s a wonderful treat and something to warm you up in January and be sweet as well; with each Scotch there will be six pairings as well.

“We’ve built the program on the connections to Canada and the Cave and Basin itself and linking it to the figures that have helped in influencing us and Canada.”

The event (18 years old minimum) takes place Saturday, Jan. 23, beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased at 403-845-3524 or purchased locally at Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut.

“It’s a Canadiana tour through the lens with a single malt tint and it’s led by the scotch experts of the 78th Highlanders of the Halifax Citadel. And to sweeten the palate, we’re taking each whisky expression and carefully pairing it with the chocolate selections,” Frick said.

“For us, being a part of Parks Canada, we’re proud to tell our national stories and with this program again we get to share the stories of building Canada.”
