he Travel Industry Association of Canada has once again nominated Canmore’s festival off all things delicious – Uncorked – for event of the year.

It is the second nomination in as many years for the festival, which runs in April and features food and drink events and fixed price menus at local establishments.

Canmore Business and Tourism executive director Andrew Nickerson said it is a big deal to have the two-year-old event make it as a finalist in the category.

“What it says is that as a small community of 12,000 we can produce an event of a national calibre and for two years in a row we are a top three finalist,” he said. “It speaks to the event itself; it speaks to the passion and buy in we get from businesses that take part every year.”

The Canadian Tourism Awards will be presented in December in Ottawa and since 2003 have been a highlight of the annual Tourism Congress.

Past finalists and winners in the category include the 100th Grey Cup and the 100th Calgary Stampede.

“For a new event in its inaugural year to be a finalist was exciting and to be a finalist in the same category two years in a row speaks to the quality of the event,” Nickerson said.

“Canmore Uncorked grew with four new events in 2015, we got more innovative with the addition of the Culinary Symphony and media coverage and attendance grew in speaking to its relevance and excitement.”
