Valley Winds thanks Rotary

The Valley Winds Music Association has turned the tables on the Rotary Club of Canmore by awarding it for generous flood relief efforts.

VWMA Board President Rolf Foster-Jorgensen showed a professional video of the inspiring Rainbow Through the Rain May performance that was partially funded by the Rotary club’s flood relief and Foundation resources.

Foster-Jorgensen awarded a plaque and complimentary DVD to Rotary President Karen Greene with a report that the one-time supplemental VWMA fund raising project to commission an original piece of music as an iconic tribute to Bow Valley resiliency after the June, 2013 flood was a success.

Rotarian Bob Aishford was also present as the 1994 VWMA founder, still current board member and tenor sax player in the VWMA Big Band.

New and returning musicians of all abilities are welcome to join rehearsals beginning at 7 p.m. on Sept. 2-4, with choir on Tuesdays at Ralph Conner Church, Big Band Wednesdays and Concert Band Thursdays in CCHC Band Room.

Foster-Jorgensen accentuated how broad community involvement and a 21 per cent membership increase helped the association turn around a three-year trend of operating budget deficits to create a modest surplus to stimulate growth for the next 20 years.

“We thank Rotary and the entire community as VWMA neighbours continue to make music together that helps foster the supportive spirit and camaraderie demonstrated through recent adversity.” said Foster-Jorgensen.
