The final legal written arguments in the upcoming Court of Appeal hearing between the Town of Canmore and Three Sisters Mountain Village Properties Limited were submitted.

“I have some concerns with proceeding and I’d like to know more because I am not comfortable proceeding if I understand the superintendent’s intentions."

“We’re interested in improving our process. Some of it is hard to compare, but other parts are quite useful. It’s opened an opportunity to be in conversation with BOWDA members about our process and where we can make changes and improvements and they can help us be more efficient such as in submitting a complete application. I’m hoping it’s a good conversation starter and we’re working together to make the process as effective as possible.”

An appeal against a Canmore planning decision to reject a pair of employee housing units in Bow Meadows Crescent will be decided by the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board in the coming days.

A parcel of the Staircase lands were redesignated by Canmore council following a Court of King’s Bench order to the Town of Canmore.

“I am quite empathetic to someone who wants to come forward and protect their business. I don’t want to get in the way of someone who has a small business running a kennel. I am very happy to find a solution for all properties.”

A pair of public hearings on the Rafter Six tourist and recreation district allowed MD of Bighorn residents to give feedback on proposed setback and area structure plan changes.

“The key to success in our communities as businesses is having employee housing and having the ability to put even in a temporary way, to house people. It’s really tough out there and it’s harder than I’ve ever seen it to get a place to live, so the fact there’s a rental unit in Banff and purchasing one in Canmore really speaks to the ability, quality of life and long-term viability to provide the transit we want to offer.”

“The practice of requiring a tenant to provide more than first month rent and security deposit to secure a tenancy, required primarily by those workers in Alberta who are here on a work visa, makes doing so unaffordable and presents an undue financial hardship to those who have come to Alberta to assist our economy by way of joining and contributing to the workforce.”
