2021 Town of Banff Election Coverage

Incumbent Banff Mayor Corrie DiManno and long-time resident Karen Thomas have filed nomination papers to run against Brian Standish in the mayoral race, while second generation Banffite Kaylee Ram has declared her candidacy for a council seat.

“I would like to see incumbents being able to use the material that shows them off well and I would also like to be able to see challengers use materials that might hold people accountable to their decisions."

Following Stavros Karlos' withdrawal from Banff's mayoral race, 2017 mayoral hopeful and 2021 council candidate Hugh Pettigrew says he will still run for a council seat unless there is no race for the mayor's job.

Allan Buckingham is the latest Banff council candidate to officially declare he's running in the Oct. 18 municipal election, joining Jessia Arsenio, Hugh Pettigrew , Mark Walker and Les Young who have also filed their nomination papers.

“My recovery is progressing, but not fast enough to run a mayoral campaign at this time… To protect my health, I am regretfully, withdrawing from the mayoral race.”

“I am not the most outspoken person, but certainly I listen, I process and I make decisions based on facts,” said Councillor Brian Standish who will take a run for the mayor's seat in the Oct. 18 municipal election.

“I love my town, I love my community and I want to ensure that I continue to contribute to this place I love,” said Stavros Karlos, who grew up in Banff.
