A fire ban has been put in place for Kootenay and Yoho national parks.

The province is in the midst of its annual wildfire season and the Bow Valley is no exception.

“It takes some homes that are on wells or cisterns right now off truck-haul delivery and gets them tied into the water distribution system, which is much more reliable and safer in terms of potability.”

“It will make the games a lot easier to get to for a lot of kids I know,” said Chiniquay, who played point guard on the U16 boys basketball team. “I think it will be a lot more entertaining because I know a lot of kids in Alberta that are way better than I was at their age. It’ll be pretty exciting to get to see them compete at a higher level.”

“It was held back and we had to take Canada to court over it. During that time, over the months, it cost our people $5-6 million dollars that could’ve been invested.”

Fast forward 10 months of training, thousands of arrows loosed and a 5-hour flight, and the determined 15-year-old from Chiniki First Nation is now shooting for a top spot at the games in Halifax among some of North America’s best young archers on Team Alberta.

“The key thing with berry season is people need to expect to see bears. It doesn’t mean it’s 100 per cent going to happen, but mentally you need to be prepared and expect encounters so that you’re not surprised, or surprising a bear.”

During the traffic stop, one passenger with outstanding warrants was identified and subsequently arrested. A search of the passenger led to the discovery of illicit drugs in his possession.

“The wages don’t really make sense. They’re a little bit inconsistent to what they’ve had and their expenses are in many cases a lot more than their salaries.”

“Tourism, sport and recreation are really important to the Banff-Kananaskis riding and to the province as a whole. I think there’s a lot of room for growth in this critic portfolio.”
