“This is something big, this is for our people and I hope that it will bring awareness to the drug crisis that we’re in – it’s ongoing and it’s an epidemic. The drug crisis itself is wiping out our people. It’s taking our youth a lot more than we could have ever expected and a lot faster, and it’s taking our older generation, too, before we even get a chance to try and heal their traumas.”

“You get a lot of networking opportunities. Lots of learning opportunities in terms of economic development and how to implement economic development. We have a roving [economic development officer] that can come into your municipality to help you with big projects and little projects.”

“Displaced Ukrainians and evacuees often arrive with the trauma of suddenly fleeing a war that is ravaging their home country. They’re thinking about family and friends that are still there.”

Wildman said she believes the apology was incomplete in more ways than one and that Stoney Nakoda First Nation wasn’t represented without mention of the United Church, or any of the other many denominations of Christianity responsible for their role in residential schools and colonization.

“The cultural residency program will allow us to bring onto our team a part-time Indigenous curator from the Stoney Nakoda. We believe that Indigenous stories need to be told by Indigenous people and our job is to give them the space to do so.”

“The Bow Valley is one of the most important areas for grizzly bears in the Y2Y region. If we fracture grizzly bear movement in this region, we hurt that chain. Helping grizzlies move through here is important.”

EDITORIAL: Foreign workers may not be citizens of Canada and it can be easy to ignore a situation, as an essential part of the country’s workforce we owe it to them to lessen the risk and improve regulation against those who try and take advantage.
