Editor: I prefer to believe that outright buffoonery is still a couple of letters away, although the sense of tilting at windmills certainly grows weekly. Some introductory social studies are in order this time. At the direction of council, administration is requested to return with reports and recommendations with respect to policies. Council then reviews the reports and decides which, if any, recommendations to pursue. I don't believe that meets the definition of rubber-stamping.

Editor: Re: Too Much Debt in Canmore In the Jan. 22 edition of the Rocky Mountain Outlook, Mr. Remppel presents a logical position on civic economics.

Editor: We were surprised the dam on Cougar Creek has been approved by council members. This has been tried in the past and failed. A more cost effective solution would be to fix the constrictions on the creek formed by the bridges.

Editor: Thanks to Jon Whelan for his excellent letter to the Outlook (Jan. 22) concerning the way Banff is “governed.” His statements hit the nail squarely on the head and I agree. I feel compelled to further add to the litany the following: 1.

Editor: You would think that after more than 40 years in power, the PC government would know a thing or two about planning for an inevitable rainy day when the economy takes a downturn.

Editor: I had an opportunity to attend the public hearing recently about the proposed infill development in the Peaks of Grassi. I am someone who is interested in moving to Canmore. From my perspective, I’d like to share a few thoughts.

Editor: So, I think a have a rant-invoking discussion for our current housing situation. I know there will probably be a lot of people out there who will strongly oppose my views here, but I’m saying it anyway.

Editor: I was very surprised to read Mr. Remppel’s last sentence in his letter last week suggesting council take a crash course at Foothills Academy in Calgary. Why he would make such a remark is disheartening.

Editor: It was a relief to see the Banff chapter of the Truthiness Squad back last week with their semi-regular humour column.

Editor: I have been notified, via email, that I have been listed as ‘neutral’ in athe matter of proposed development in the vicinity of Quarry Lake. I am firmly in the company of Gerry Stephenson.
